This week is going to be mostly about getting ready for the self-supported half ironman distance triathlon I’ll be doing on Saturday 16/4 as prep to do Challenge Aarhus. You can join the event on Endomondo. Yes, it really is a triathlon even if Endomondo lists it as “other”.
Also join the event on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=124035681003753.

If you’re in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Saturday 16/4 you’re free to participate in any part of the total distance and any amount of disciplines. If you join the swim you should expect to cover the (tiny) expense on your own.

Here are a couple of probable start times:
Swimmers: total distance is 1,9km.
Start time is around 09.00 at Sportfondsenbad Oost:

Sportfondsenbad Oost

Google Maps of the start

Bikers: total distance is 90km.
Start time is around 10.00 at Sportfondsenbad Oost: same as above.

Runners: total distance is 21,1km.
Start time is around 13:30-14:00 at Sportfondsenbad Oost: same as above.

So, the things that need to be prepped are:

Pack my swim-gear

Check the bike to be race-ready and pack all that is required for a 90km ride;

Pack my running stuff (Thursday or Friday)

Go through the checklist at http://triathlon.racechecklist.com to make sure I have it all.

So, since last time I wrote a few things have happened. One of the things that always happen around end of July is the end of the fiscal year at Cisco. This is a big thing and certainly requires a lot of extra effort.

This year even more so, as I broke my wrist in an accident at the beginning of July. After a bit more than a week of waiting I got an operation on the 20th of July. The illustrative photos can be viewed below:

Nailed

Today I’ve been to the hospital for a review and am happy to say that this is the first time in almost a month that I use a keyboard with two hands – and that with the doctors’ approval. It does feel a bit weird, but goes a lot faster than just typing with one hand! In addition the stitches have been removed, so now all I have is a nice 7,5 centimeter scar to prove that I have a plate in my hand. Oh, and I feel one of the screws going through the bone and out on the other side…

Today I picked up on something new. Flickr seems to be working on some geotagging compatibility with Google Earth that makes it possible to view your Flickr geotagged pictures in Google Earth.

Pretty neat!!

Thanks to Geobloggers for telling how to do this – check out the description here and my always updated geotagged flickr feed here.
Hoping to get back in training soon and keep on working that fitness level. Looks like it will be mostly cardio for now as lifting weights is a bit out of the question with a weak wrist. Good anyway as it seems that Martin and I will be heading off towards the (hopefully) sunny South to do some cycling towards the end of the year.

Should be loads of fun!

In April I took part in the AD 5km run in Rotterdam. Although 5km isn’t necessarily much of an impressive distance, it was in interesting measure of fitness.Last weekend I finally got around to getting myself that wetsuit for the triathlon coming up in Herenveen in a couple of weeks. In addition I went out to try out my bike with the new tri bars. What a difference! Right now I’m just really looking forward to the triathlon in Herenveen on 26th of May.Marathon training is not really moving forward while I train for the tri, and that partly comes through realizing that I might want to make sure not to injure myself in the process of getting there. The goal is still to complete my first marathon ever in 2007.

We’re now less than a week away from getting married, and on Saturday the 5th The Boys carried out a surprise hit to kidnap me from all our planning and doing – for the Bachelor’s Day!
Starting out with beer for breakfast is not really my usual first choice, but for a bachelor that’s the only right choice, and everybody in a happy mood we went for the cars to go… where??

De Boerinn is a farm somewhere in the center of the Netherlands, which offers all sorts of activities. One of the activities they offer is to provide an unsafe environment for bachelors. The Boys did their best to help De Boerinn live up to their mission statement and frequently threw myself and eachother into the muddy waters around the farm.

What do you need when you’ve been falling into the water. More beer it would seem, and we moved from De Boerinn south to Utrecht, which has some cozy cafés in the city centre.

After an exhausting afternoon in the polder and drinking beer in Utrecht, Het Nachtrestaurant at Winkel van Sinkel in Utrecht was the restaurant of choice to fill our empty stomachs and prepare us for the night.

Finally we went into the night – first in Utrecht, later in Amsterdam – and the rest of the story has got to be left to your imagination. We promised eachother that I’m the one who knows what happened. And I’m not telling !

Today Thusgaard.com is celebrating it’s 7 years birthday. Originally registered in 1999, having had 3 different designs throughout those years, it’s been hosted in Denmark and Luxembourg by a handful of different companies, and is currently administrated out of Netherlands.

Furthermore it has transformed and followed web culture forward (as much as a family site can find resources to do), with e-mail to around 20 individuals named Thusgaard, and meanwhile with relatively independent blogs attached to it.

It’s a fairly international site with many participants either active or in the background and promising posts across a multitude of topics.

Here’s to 7 more great years – Happy Birthday Thusgaard.com !!!
